“Music for a while shall all your cares beguile” is a text by the poet John Dryden, set to music by Henry Purcell. 17th century English songwriters produced a prodigious body of work, no doubt inspired by the great English poets of the age.
This concert is a panorama of the finest songs by the greatest English composers of the 17th century. From the songs of John Dowland, to those of Henry Lawes and John Wilson, and finally to those of Henry Purcell, you will be enticed and beguiled by this “music for a while...”.
